Biography – Kande Studio

Kingsley Gunatillake

Kingsley’s practice involves painting, sculpture ,illustration ,installation and book arts.

completed his bachelor of fine arts at University of the Visual and Performing Arts in 1978 and a Diploma in Environmental Education from the University of Strathclyde Glasgow in 1994.

He has had more than 30 solo exhibitions in Sri Lanka and also in Glasgow,The Philippines, Ireland and India .

Participated in many group exhibitions and artist camps in both Sri Lanka , Ireland, France, Pakistan, Kora, China, and Japan. Most recently the book art exhibition at the Vederah Gallery in India .

Gunatillake has also been the recipient of a number of national and international awards since 1980, as well as including Noma awards from Japan and Binale illustration Bratislava Czechoslovakia for picture book illustrations.

In 2001 he received the Bunka award for his exceptional work of traditional painting project following the bomb blast in 1998 at the Tempal of Tooth , world heritage site in Kandy Sri Lanka .

Gunatillak’s work of art can be found in many international and local collections including the Sri Lanka presidential collection of contemporary art.

He currently working at his studio ( Kande studio) Kandy

キンスリグナティラカ（ビジュアルアーティスト/ スリランカ）

キンスリの作品は、絵画、彫刻、イラスト、インスタレーション、ブックアートがある。

1978年Visual and Performing Arts大学（コロンボ/スリランカ)で美術の学士号を取得.

1994年Strathclyde Glasgow大学グラスゴー校で環境教育の学位を取得。

彼のアートワークのキャリアは長く、スリランカ国内のアート界ではマスターピース的存在を確立していますが、その才能は若いころから海外でも高く評価され、グラスゴー、フィリピン、アイルランド、インドなど30以上の個展を開催。

彼の活動はスリランカを拠点にアイルランド、フランス、パキスタン、韓国、中国、日本など多くのグループ展やアーティストキャンプに参加し、中でも日本とは交流が深く、キンスリ曰く『わたしは日本人の影武者です。』というほどの親日家である。近年では2021年『Book Art』Vadehra Gallery(インド／ニューデリー）での個展、2022年インドアートフェア出展、2023年1月Vadehra Gallery （インド/ニューデリー）での個展を控えている。彼の長年にわたる作品のコレクターは世界中に点在しており、スリランカの有名建築家やアメリカのコレクターからの作品依頼も多く、スリランカ国内の個人邸宅やホテルなどでも彼の作品を多く見ることができる。

2001年には、スリランカの世界遺産である仏歯寺（キャンディ）の爆破崩壊後その歴史的な絵画の修復プロジェクトの並外れた業績により、文化賞を受賞。

キンスリはイラストレーションのおいても1980年以来、数多くの国内および国際的な賞を受賞しており、日本からのNOMA賞や絵本の挿絵のためのビナーレイラストブラチスラバチェコスロバキアにてイラストレーション賞をはじめ数々の賞を受賞。

また、2000年にチャイルド・アート・スタジオを設立し、世界中の子どもたちを対象とした様々なアート活動を行っている。インド、アイルランド、日本でも子どもたちを対象としたワークショップを開催。30年にわたる戦争で疲弊したスリランカ国に住み、平和、調和、共存を確立するために戦争に立ち向かい、社会的、政治的、文化的問題に取り組んできた。そしてそれは戦争、平和、人権、子どもたちの問題に焦点をあてている。
